Pennine Panthers do the Race for Life

Everyone who knows me is aware that I've never ever been even slightly into exercise. In year six when I moved primary schools, I really used to hate going in to school on PE or games lessons days because everyone was so competitive and I really didn't think it was fun...

It's now time to say that has all changed. In the past month I've bought some trainers, joggers and even joined the gym, all in order to train to do the Race for Life in Heaton Park, Manchester on the 12th of July.

I am doing this race with six other ladies from my work under the name of 'Pennine Panthers.' Our team have mixed capabilities, none of us are particularly athletic but we are all going to try our best to push ourselves physically to achieve results for the great charity Cancer Research.

I'm not going to write any more blogs about training because I feel like that would be boring to read but it would be great if sometime between now and July, you could have a think about sponsoring us. All donations will go to Cancer Research, to visit out JustGiving page you can click here.

What Will Pintrest's Changes Really do for Marketeers?

Pinterest is a visual social media site which revolves around the sharing of images. In simple terms - a 21st Century web version of the beloved pinboard,  where you can; create your own board, re-pin content which interests you posted by others, discover content in a simple visual way and connect with other like minded people. (See this data visualisation from MDG Advertising for more info on the basics...)

Up until recently is has been quite difficult for marketeers to measure their successes in a business context. Businesses had to create accounts that did not integrate with the popular digital marketing measurement platforms they utilise to measure their other social channels.

It could be said that this has made it fairly difficult for even the most modern marketeers to measure ROI from the channel, perhaps even deterring them from spending too much time on developing the platform for their business (particularly in the B2B market which I currently work in!) This has however all just changed...

Pinterest are now getting ready to announce a new initiative which will help businesses; gather more insight intoPinterest trends, create promoted pins, gather more information on Pinterest marketing successes and even connect their  Pinterest to social media management tools via API (so far Hootsuite, Salesforce, Spredfastm Percolate, Piquora Curalate and Tailwind are said to be in on this.)

This could allow marketeers to incorporate Pinterest right at the heart of their social strategy, allowing them to measure the results of this channel alongside their traditional social channels as well as giving them the opportunity to invest more time and effort into their Pinterest pages, ensuring it is relevant to their audience and driving successes for their business.

Are you a business or agency who uses Pinterest? I would love to hear more about how you think these advances will change the way you use Pinterest as part of your marketing strategy, please feel free to get in touch and let me know!

Review: Viet Shack

First food blog of the fiannahornby blog! After re-establishing my blog love (see my explanation for the three year gap here) I was unsure what the theme was going to be..

That was until I heard about Viet Shack on Twitter this morning.. All the memories of the vietnamese food I used to eat in Dalston came back to me (bet you thought I was going to say something else!) I just had to pay a visit and it really gave me something to type about!

Viet Shack is possibly Manchester's newest street food stall, opening just yesterday (Tuesday 21st of May.) On visit, I met Nelson the lovely young owner who explained to me how his routes are firmly grounded in Vietnamese cuisine with his family owning the London restaurant Cafe East.

Rather than follow in his families footsteps and set up down South, Nelson thought the North deserved a well needed flavour injection and there Viet Shack spawned.. in our beloved Arndale Market. I've got to tell the truth, the food in the market is a bit hit and miss, there's the great Zorbas and Pancho's and the opposite with the unpalatable pancake stall. All things said and done, this has defiantly knocked the great ones off the top spot!

(Summer rolls, Viet Shack)

For starters I had the veggie summer rolls for just £2.50, I would normally go for prawn but due to the popularity of the newly opened street food shack, they were all sold out! Norman made me a concoction sauce of satay and chilli, which was a perfect accompaniment to the tasty summer rolls. I selected the sweet soy, which was also a detectable dip!

(Selection of sauces)

For my main I choose BBQ meats and rice and went for the pork option for a bargain £5.50.

(Main of BBQ Pork & Rice, Summer Rolls and dips)

The scrumptious pork chops - griddled to perfection came with two sides; faultlessly cooked rice and a vietnamese salad with leaves, carrot and coriander. This whole meal truly was sensational!

A must visit for anyone in Manchester., I'll defiantly be a regular after this visit, maybe I'll see you in there!

2008 - 2014

I started this blog back in 2008 with no idea that I was sewing the seeds for my future career.

Since 2008 I have finished college, attended University of the Arts London, done bits of work for massive publications such as Dazed &Confused, Vice, GQ Style and Wonderland, achieved a 2.1 BA in Magazine publishing.

I've worked freelance, had jobs at companies I've loved and companies that I've hated and ended up landing my dream job as a KTP Digital Marketing Executive for the University of Salford and I am half way through completing an MSc in Marketing.

I never thought about revisiting this blog but since curiosity came over me and I saw that the blog was still getting hits from so many random sources, I thought it would be an injustice not to.

I can't say I've really thought about the content or where this is going to go but I just wanted to say hello again and hopefully you will all forgive me for being quiet...I've been pretty busy after-all.
